Frequently Asked Questions
If you put in 100% effort and commit to our coaching you should see noticeable improvement in a few weeks. If you keep eating fried mars bars (yes they exist!) while vegetating on the couch, then it’s going to take a while longer…
We cannot guarantee results because we can’t control what you put in your mouth 24 hours a day. But we can promise the best possible exercise and nutrition advice based on over 10 years of experience and backed by the latest scientific research.
Yes. I have a number of individuals who come in for training sessions who use the facilities at DSQ as a guest. There is a small guest fee (included in your guest training rate) to be paid at reception on each visit.
Of course. We train lots of couples and small groups (maximum of 3). Get in touch for a quote and to check availability.
I can assist in getting a discounted membership rate at DSQ Gym if you are joining to train with me.
The exact rate changes with seasonal variations in membership rates. Contact me directly and I can put you in touch with the sales team

It’s never too late to focus on looking after yourself. In fact, as you get older, it’s increasingly important to make sure you keep yourself strong and healthy. My coaching is tailored to accommodate all levels and abilities. I’ve trained 12 year olds right up to a client at 102 years young!
Me too! I have some chronic health conditions which require careful management when it comes to exercise and nutrition. I know all too well how challenging life can get coping with an illness.
But making yourself stronger, fitter and healthier will guarantee you are giving yourself the best chance of coping with your condition into your later years. The benefits of exercise on general health are now proven by science, and I receive an increasing number of referrals from medical professionals.
The role of personal trainers is constantly evolving. Successful trainers need to be problem solvers. To empathise when life gets tough and still find ways to help you hit your goals. To understand the difference between fatigue and laziness, and how to respond to keep you moving forward.
From over 15 years of experience, these qualities are extremely rare in your average personal trainer. Check out my testimonials to see how I value each and every trainee.
Probably. But you already know how hard it is to find a great trainer…
What’s better – getting nowhere for years with a bargain basement trainer or making rapid, impressive progress by investing in a trainer with proven results?
That’s really not my thing I’m afraid. I’m far too busy making people awesome.
If I recommend something it’s because I genuinely think it’s beneficial.
My heart – and my poor, sensitive hip – say squats!
Cereal.
Shreddies are the greatest breakfast cereal ever. A hill I’m willing to die upon!
Online Coaching FAQs
I fully personalise all programs and this takes time. Coaching spaces are limited to 20 so I can concentrate on each individual and maximise results.
I need the same detailed information gathered before coaching anyone – your training goals, injuries, health issues, pain, current training, previous training experience, nutrition etc. The more detail, the more tailored the program.
As soon as payment is processed, I aim to have your program ready within 2-3 days.
If your goal is to lose fat or gain muscle then I request some “before” photos prior to starting. We can then compare subsequent photos as you progress through the program. I can advise on how best to take these photos and also provide methods of assessing your own body fat percentage/girth measurements if required.
The software has videos and detailed directions to show how to perform the exercises on your program. If you are in any doubt that you’re doing things right, you can provide videos of you performing the exercises. Detailed feedback is then provided in your weekly check-ins.
The software is linked to MyfitnessPal so you can track every thing you eat and we can assess where you can improve. I’ll help you set up nutrition targets at the outset and adjust as you progress.
Typically no. Over many years of coaching I’ve found meal plans to be pretty ineffective. We want you to learn how to manage your nutrition yourself so you can make considered choices.
I can provide daily calorie targets, macro breakdowns (if necessary), food substitutions, shopping suggestions, and analyse your compliance through MyfitnessPal
Absolutely! The benefit of online coaching compared to in-person is that you can train whenever and wherever works best for you. I’ve tailored online programs for night shift workers, busy moms, CEO’s and frequent flyers.
If you have access to the internet then I can coach you online.
We can advise on what equipment you might need if you want to exercise at home. At least a few pairs of dumbbells (or an adjustable pair) would be a good idea. Some resistance bands would be useful too.
Joining a local gym or leisure centre, even for a short period of time, would speed up your progress.
Definitely! I’ve a number of individuals who come in for regular weekly, monthly or even bi-annual personal training sessions. Hybrid training (in-person combined with online) has proven to be hugely effective as we can physically assess your body fat percentage, posture, strength and muscle mass, then tweak your program if necessary.
Please get in touch to get more information about combined online coaching and person training.
